Common Connection Errors
"Network not found" — Your saved WiFi network is not in range. Move closer to your router or hotspot.
"Wrong password" — The saved password is incorrect. Go to CONFIGURE to re-enter it.
"Connect timeout" — The network was found but the connection timed out. Try again.
Note: You must connect to WiFi before using Text Chat, Math Solver, Games, or firmware updates. Notes and History work offline.
5. Settings Menu
The Settings menu provides access to connectivity, keepalive, configuration, and update options.
5.1 Ping (Keepalive)
If you are using a mobile phone hotspot, the hotspot may automatically disconnect after a period of inactivity. The Ping feature sends a small signal at regular intervals to keep the connection alive.
Step 1: From the Settings menu, select PING.
Step 2: You will see your current ping setting (e.g., "ON 45" or "OFF 0").
Step 3: Choose an interval from the menu. Select your preferred interval. A shorter interval uses slightly more battery but is more reliable at keeping the connection alive. 45 seconds is recommended for most mobile hotspots.
Step 4: You will see a confirmation message. Press [ENTER] to return to Settings.
Tip: If you are connected to a home WiFi router, you can turn Ping OFF to save battery. Routers typically do not disconnect idle devices.
5.2 Update
CAMCALC can update its own firmware over WiFi. This ensures you always have the latest features and fixes.
Step 1: Make sure you are connected to WiFi first (use CONNECT).
Step 2: From the Settings menu, select UPDATE.
Step 3: The screen will show your current firmware version and check for updates.
Step 4: If your firmware is up to date, you will see "UP TO DATE". Press [ENTER] to go back.
Step 5: If an update is available, you will see "UPDATE AVAILABLE" with two options: Press [ENTER] to install the update, or press [CLR] to cancel.
Step 6: If you choose to install, the update will begin downloading.
Note: Do not turn off the calculator or disconnect the module during an update. Wait at least 3 minutes, then reload CAMCALC from the PRGM menu.
6. Ask AI: Text Chat
Text Chat lets you ask questions and get answers from an AI assistant, directly on your calculator. You can also have follow-up conversations.
6.1 Starting a Chat
Step 1: From the main menu, select ASK AI.
Step 2: You will see the GPT Mode menu.
Step 3: Select TEXT CHAT.
Step 4: If you are not connected to WiFi, you will see a message telling you to connect first.
6.2 Last Prompt (Resend)
When you enter Text Chat, CAMCALC checks if you have a previous prompt saved. This is useful if your last question failed due to a network error, or if you want to re-ask a previous question.
If a previous prompt exists: Press [ENTER] to resend the same question without retyping it, or press [CLR] to type a new question instead.
If no previous prompt exists, you will go directly to the question input.
6.3 Typing Your Question
Step 1: Type your question using the calculator keyboard. Press [ALPHA] to type letters, [2nd] then [ALPHA] to lock alpha mode for faster typing.
Step 2: Press [ENTER] when you are done typing.
Step 3: The screen will show "LOADING..." while your question is sent to the AI.
6.4 Reading the Response
The AI response will appear on the screen. Because the calculator screen is small, long responses are split into pages.
Navigation controls: Press [LEFT] arrow to go to the previous page. Press [RIGHT] arrow to go to the next page. Press [ENTER] to type a follow-up question. Press [CLR] to go back to the GPT Mode menu.
Each page displays approximately 100 characters. The page number is shown at the bottom (e.g., [1/3] means page 1 of 3).
6.5 Follow-Up Conversations
CAMCALC supports multi-turn conversations. The AI remembers what you discussed and can answer follow-up questions in context.
Step 1: While viewing an AI response, press [ENTER].
Step 2: Type your follow-up question and press [ENTER].
Step 3: The AI response will appear. You can ask things like "explain that more" or "give me an example" without repeating your original question.
You can continue asking follow-ups as many times as you like.
Note: The conversation context resets when you go back to the GPT Mode menu and start a new Text Chat. Conversations are remembered for up to 30 minutes of inactivity on the server side.
6.6 Error Handling and Retry
If something goes wrong (network timeout, server error, WiFi disconnection), you will see an error screen.
Press [ENTER] to retry the same message immediately without retyping. Press [CLR] to go back to the GPT Mode menu.
If you go back to the menu, your question is still saved. The next time you enter Text Chat, you will see the Last Prompt (Resend) option.
Tip: If you get a "No WiFi" error, go to Settings and use CONNECT to reconnect, then come back to Text Chat. Your last prompt will still be available.
